SUPPLEMENTAL CANON

Within this post I'm compiling the supplemental canon I'll be using, or bearing in mind, from the RPG booklets and the sourcebook. Since this is (mostly) information that exists outside the graphic novel I wanted to make it readily available to see and refer to so anyone can know where I'm coming from.

As is probably obvious, I am also heavily drawing from the Before Watchmen: Minutemen title (where it does not contradict the graphic novel or any of these clippings) due to its heavy focus on developing Captain Metropolis's character/personality/storyline beyond what was only ever implied or very minimal in Watchmen. Obviously anything that might overlap another character should be discussed in the event of castmates. I am not including scans from BW:M in this post as those issues are very accessibly found, and it can be assumed I'm including everything (that doesn't contradict anything else).

CONTENT WARNINGS. Racism & anti-semitism. Mentions of war & violence (non-graphic). Suicide (hinted).

To whom it may concern,
Please excuse Nelson Gardner from gym class. He suffers from severe bronchial asthma, and prolonged strenuous activity could provoke an attack.
Thank you,
Dr. Arthur G. Fabisher

Subject: Nelson Gardner
Teacher: Melissa Murphy
Date: March 16, 1921
Nelson is an excellent student. The early reading comprehension and mathematics evaluations lead me to believe that he is probably the top student in the class. Any problems he has stem from the fact that the other students constantly tease him. Nelson is somewhat sickly and unable to participate in physical activities. The constant teasing has a profound impact upon the boy and his ability to concentrate on his studies.

Mrs. Gardner,
I agree that Nelson's progress to date has been remarkable, although I am still a little reluctant to give him an OK for the race on Sunday. Prolonged cardiovascular activity could still bring on a severe attack.
Unfortunately, after speaking with Nelson yesterday, I see that there is almost no way I can refuse to allow him to run. Participating in this race would do wonders for his confidence and self-esteem, two traits that will need to serve him well if he is going to make a complete recovery.
Go ahead, and allow Nelson to run his race. I will be there myself just in case anything happens.
Sincerely,
Dr. Arthur G. Fabisher

Dear Mom and Dad,
Your son is now a lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps! I finally finished officer training and shipped out to my first real posting. For the next ten months, I am going to be stationed in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, where I will receive instruction in field artillery. Once my training has been completed, I join the 45th Battery as a junior staff officer! If only my friends could see me now!
Although I'm in Cuba, continue to address any letters you send to 3rd Division headquarters in Fairfax. We move around a lot down here, and they'll see that the mail gets sent to the right place.
I hope Aunt Frieda is okay (tell her I said "Hi"). I heard about the nasty trouble with her gallbladder.
Anyway, I've got to go now. Say "Hi" to everyone for me and I should see you in December when I get leave.
Love,
Nelly

Dear Mom and Dad,
I finally got back from the Philippines last Tuesday. When I arrived, my discharge papers were waiting for me. I should be back in Straw Valley in two weeks.
I've been giving a lot of thought to the question of what to do back in the States, and I've decided that I'd like to cash in on my military expertise and and become an Independent security consultant. Of course this means I'll have to move away from home (no one really needs a security consultant in Straw Valley), but I'll be my own boss, so I can get time off to come back for all the holidays. I think I'll move to New York.
Anyway, I've got to go now, so I'll see you soon.
Love,
Nelly
